母の実家がある沖縄から、荷物が届きました。清明祭（しーみー）に参加した父母がお土産として送ってくれたもののようです。開けてみると、定番の食料品に加え、小ぶりのシーサーが一対あります。
さて、どうしたものか。しばらく、玄関横の風呂場の塀に置いておきましたが、川に面した格子に取り付けることを思い立ちました。   廃材を利用して台座を作り、格子に合わせてべんがらを塗って取り付けてみると、この集落のありようになんともしっくりきているような気がします。かんまん部屋に手を入れるときは、庭側の裏道と、北面の川沿い通りとのスケール感の違いを意識するようにしていますが、通り側にシーサーを取り付けて、気分は名護市庁舎といったところでしょうか。公共建築と私設公民館、社会的ランクには大きな違いはありますが・・・。   最初に気づいてくれたのはお隣のKさん。帰り際にわざわざ庭に立ち寄って、「かわいいなぁ」と言っていってくれました。よかったよかった。 （ゆ） Shisaa We received a box from Okinawa where my mother's home town is. My parents sent it as a souvenir from Okinawa. They had been in Okinawa for Shime, an Okinawa's seasonal event. In the box, there were the usual Okinawan foods, and two small Shisaas ( Shisa is a traditional Ryukyuan decoration, often in pairs, resembling a cross between a lion and a dog, from Okinawan mythology). What shall we do with them? We kept them on the wall of the shower room near the entrance for a while, but I thought of putting them on our river-side grids. I made small stages for them using scraps of wood, and painted them in rouge color just like the grids. Somehow, they matched with the atmosphere of this village! Whenever I add or change some parts of Kanman-beya, I consider the balance of scales between the back streets of the garden side and the main street of the river side of this house. Adjusting Shisaas on the river side, it looked like a city office of Nago in Okinawa. Well, there is a huge gap of social ranking though: that one is a public building, while ours is just a private community hall...! The first one who noticed Shisaas was K-san of next door. On her way back home, she stopped and told me "oh, that's cute". Phew, it seemed to be working well! Yuki |
