秘密の場所へ、蛍を見に行ってきました。
僕は東京の住宅街育ち。蛍が飛ぶような風景には馴染みなく大きくなりました。小学校の頃、蛍を見た記憶があるのは、どこかの昆虫館のような、施設の中でのこと。 その後、蛍のことについては、環境教育や、自然保護のまちつくりのような場面で触れたくらいでしょうか。特別なもののような気がしていました。だから蛍が見られるのをウリにしたお食事処にわざわざ行ったこともありますし、インドのコルカタに暮らしていたときには、隣州のオリッサで見たホタルの木や、街なかのあちらこちらでチラチラ揺らめく光に感動しました。 そしていま明浜で、自然環境との際で果樹栽培をおこなっていますが、蛍が飛ぶことが、どれだけ特別なことなのか、もっとよく分かるようになりました。 集落の静かな小川にホタルの光が反射して、そこには2つ飛んでいるように見えます。対岸の林の中で、一斉に、次々と、淡く輝く静かな夜光のパノラマ。その中から飛び出していく一匹を、つい目で追ってしまう。 僕たちのほかにも観覧者がいて、中には三世代がそろって見に来ているような家族もありました。思いついたときにフラッとみんなで蛍を見に行くなんて、素敵じゃないか。ああ、来年も来よう。 （ゆ） Almost our side of the other world A friend of us took us to the secret fire fly spot. I've grown up in a residential area of Tokyo where I hardly saw fire flies around. I remember that I'd seen them at an insectarium when I was an elementary school student. Since then, if at all I had any connections with fire flies, those were in terms of environmental education and/or nature conservation matter in town planning. I use to think the existence of fire flies are something special. That's why I've been drawn to a restaurant where they show us fire flies as an entertainment, and I was so impressed when I saw many of them flying here and there in a town of Orissa, India. There, I saw an impressive "fire fly tree" as well. And now, Having been engaged in citrus cultivation, living just beside a natural environment, I got to understand more about how special it is to be able to see wild fire flies. At the secret spot, we saw many fire flies flying above a small river in a village, whose lights were reflecting on the water surface and showing us a double number of lights. On the other side of the river, among trees, a number of quiet and sickly lights appeared one after another. I tended to follow with my eyes whenever one of lights flew out from the group. There were some other people enjoying the scenery, and some of them were there for three generations. How nice to visit such a place at a whim. Yes, we'll come back here next year again. Yuki |
