 これは、僕が好きな写真です。 ですがこれを見て、これがどんなシチュエーションなのか、ここに写っている人間がどんな関係にあるのか、想像がつく人は、そうは多くないと思います。これは何を隠そう、かんまん部屋で撮影したある記念写真。タイマーで撮りました。 何が好きかって、やっぱりこのおばあちゃん。84歳になる人で、この集落で育ち、同じ集落に嫁いで暮らしてきました。そんな人が、こんながちゃがちゃした空間の中で、大柄な外国人を隣にして、何の気負いも遠慮もない表情でいる。すごいなぁ、と思うんです。 こんな感覚で、過疎や農山村のことを捉えていきたいというのが、僕の生き方というか、生き様です。 --- 総務省が主催する『全国過疎問題シンポジウム in えひめ』という催しがおこなわれました。初日の全体会は僕たちの住む西予市で開催され、二日目は西予市を含む県内4つの分科会という2日間のプログラムです。 このたび、西予市で開催された分科会にパネリストとして招かれました。  この記事の最初の写真説明は、自己紹介を兼ねたショートレクチャーのために用意した原稿の冒頭部分で、同じ写真を映し出して話しました。その後のパネルディスカッションでは、主婦の経験やネパールでのストリートチルドレンと呼ばれる子どもたちと過した日々などを織り交ぜながら、人類未来における田舎人の可能性、農山村における生産活動の重要性、社会運動性の必要性、そして貧困と過疎の類似点などに触れました。 とても短い時間でした。パネリストは他に3名、中には全国的にも名前が知られる人もいる中、実績も、所属先すらあやふや、服装までへんてこな僕はすっかり浮いていたような気がしますが、案外、会場に訪れた人も楽しんでくれたようです。 この日の夕方、その様子がNHK地方局の夕方のニュースで放映され、これを観た、この催しを知らなかった地元の人はびっくりしたようです。軽トラや集落道で行き違う際に、「出とったやないか！」と、たびたび声をかけられます。 ちなみにこの記事のタイトルは、愛媛の巨人・若松進一さんが自宅敷地内に作った「煙会所」のこと。それを私設公民館と自身で称しているわけですが、交流会で会った彼のその言い方が気に入って、このシンポジウムとかんまん部屋のことを思い、拝借させてもらいました。 （ゆ） The Private Community Center This is my favorite photo. However, only few people can guess under what circumstances this photo was taken and what the relationship of these people are. This is actually a ceremonial photo taken in my house, Kanman-beya, using a timer. What I like most about this photo is the grandma who is 84 years old, who grew up and also got married in this area. This person is sitting in such a house with many unorganized stuffs, next to a guy, a foreigner with a large build, without any hesitation. This is incredible to me. This is the feeling that I would like to see and understand - about the issue of depopulation and rural areas; this is how I live, well, the way of my life. --- A "National Symposium on Depopulation -in Ehime" was held by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. It was for two days; the first day was a general session in Seiyo City where we live, and the second day was composed of four meetings, one of which was in Seiyo-city, again. I was invited as one of panelists for the meeting held in our city. The initial part of this article is how I started my presentation on that day. Every panelist had 10-15 minutes of presentation cum self introduction, so I started with this photo on a big screen. Panel discussion followed, and I talked about the importance of production activities and necessity of social activism in rural areas, and identified similarities between poverty and depopulation. While I was talking, I mentioned my experience of being a house-maker and the days I had spent with the so-called street children in Nepal. I felt that the time was really short. There were three more panelists including nationally well known persons, while my background, professional affiliation, and even clothes were totally different. However, the audience seemed to enjoy my presentation as well as I did. That evening, the symposium was in the local TV news. Our neighbors who didn't know about the event were very surprised watching me in the screen. Next day, many of them said to me "I saw you in the news!". By the way, regarding the title of this article, this is how Mr. Shinichi Wakamatsu, a big guy of Ehime, calls his smoking cum meeting space built within his premises.
