Hさんのところへ帰省しているSさんとその子どもたちとの思いで作りに、帰省当初から四万十トロッコ号に乗ろう！ との話が持ち上がっていたそうです。僕たちもその企画に誘ってもらい、一緒に行くことにしました。
普通の鈍行列車に付属された、貨車を改造した吹きさらしの車両に、区間限定で乗りこむことができます。心配していた雨続きの天気は、不思議とトロッコ号の区間だけ止み、四万十川の様子や山の景観を楽しみました。鈍行の速度でも、吹きさらしではなかなか迫力があります。また、トンネルに突入すると、お化け屋敷のような薄暗さの中の緊張感とひんやりした空気が、思ったよりもはるかに気持ちよかったです。 ただ行って帰ってきただけの短い旅だったわりに、分厚い時間を過ごした気がします。        （ゆ） Tram trip Now H-san's daughter and her kids from USA are visiting him, and even before they came, they were planing a tram-trip running parallel to Shimanto River. They invited us to join this day trip, so we happily agreed. What's special about the tram is that we could sit in an open train car for a specific route so that we could enjoy the panoramic view of Shimanto River and mountain. We worried about weather that day, but it stopped raining just before tram ride began. Though the train was not "rapid" one, still it was quite thrilling sitting in the open train car. When the train went into a tunnel, it was as dark as a horror house, but its cool air and atmosphere were much nicer that I expected. It was just a day trip, but I spent an enriching day. Yuki |
