This is the season for cucumbers. I had really a lot of cucumbers inside and outside my fridge.
Then, a good idea came up from J-san - that we could make pickle with Golpo-kko kids! She brought spices, and with those cucumbers and five kids, our pickle making started.
Kids enjoyed measuring salt, sugar and other spices, counting the spoons one by one. Measuring, seasoning and simply mixing them made them really excited. Till then, we had tried various cooking with kids, but this pickle making seemed like one of the best for them to join; the process was simple and they could participate in nearly the whole process. Or maybe, had kids grown up?
So, many cucumbers are now sleeping in huge glass bottles. We'll open and taste them together in the next Golpokko.

きゅうりの季節です。冷蔵庫に入りきらないほどの、きゅうりたちが、我が家にもどっさり。
そこで、Jさんからいいアイディアが。それは「ごるぽっこ」の子どもたちと一緒にピクルスを作ってみたらいいのではないかな、というものでした。彼女がスパイスを持って来てくれて、さっそくその日集まった5人の子どもたちとやってみることに。
子どもたちは、塩や砂糖などを真剣にスプーンで量り数えます。調味料を量って混ぜる、というシンプルな工程がとてもヒットしたらしく、珍しく集中力もあり大盛り上がりです。これまで、色々な料理を子どもたちとやってきましたが、このピクルス作りは上位にランクインしそうです。やっていることもシンプルだし、ほぼ全工程に渡って参加できるのがよかったのでしょうか。それとも、子どもらが成長したということか。
ともかくも、ただいま大量のきゅうりたちは、大きなガラス瓶の中でお休み中。来週の「ごるぽっこ」で皆で味見したいと思います。
