野村ピザ
 2004年に合併したことで発足した西予市は、明浜のように海抜0m地域から、標高1,400m以上の山間地、その中間には盆地もある、独特な地方自治体です。この合併で同じ西予市の一部となった野村地区に、『段々畑』というところがあります。夫婦で営んでいる体験型の民宿で、手作りの釜でピザ焼き体験などができます。
 ここに遊びに行ってきました。

 かんまん部屋が始まる前から、僕たちのとこへは、毎年少なくない人が訪問してくれています。以前からの友人であったり、その友人がまた別の仲間を連れてきてくれたり、あるいは僕たちのことを紹介されて、玄関先で初対面の挨拶を交わすこともときどきあります。
 僕たちの農業では、こうした人たちとの交流や対話を大事にしていきたいし、またそれが重要なカギとなっていくと考えています。かんまん部屋がそんな場所になっていくためにも、どんなことが必要かなと、(わ)と二人でときどき話しています。そんな折、前月の西予市の広報で、「西予市グリーン・ツーリズム事業」の助成についての記事を見つけ、『住む。』『住宅建築』『もっとコルカタ』のイラスト集『全国過疎問題シンポジウム』の報告書など、ざっと自己紹介できる資料を携えて、事業内容について詳しい話を聞きに行きました。
 じっくり構想を練って取り組むべきものだと思うので、助成申請するにしてもまだまだ先のことですが、以来、西予市の担当者とはときどき連絡を取り合う間柄となり、この事業で改修費用の一部を助成したという『段々畑』を、その後、あらためて紹介してもらったわけです。勉強のために、さっそくピザ焼き体験の予約をしました。



 ピザ焼き体験は、それは楽しいものでした。具を並べるのが普段の遊びよりも本番じみていて、(う)も大喜び、かつ真剣。ピザ釜の構造や、こちらも手作りという半屋外空間の作り方、調理作業所の様子など、とても勉強になりました。けれど、一番興味深かったのは、この夫婦の個人的な体験談。やはりモノゴトの流れ、あるいはその方向付けに作用するのは、“何をするか”ではなく“誰がやるか”という要素の方が大きいようです。
 僕たちとは経験も考え方も異なるのに、会話は弾み、学ぶことがたくさんありました。(う)も(す)も、すぐ近くを流れる川で遊んで大はしゃぎ。帰りの車でぐっすり眠ってしまいました。

Nomura Pizza


Seiyo City is an unique municipality consisting of various areas such as sea level areas like Akehama, more than 1,400 meters high mountainous areas, and basin areas; this is because the city was merged in 2004, and Nomura is one of new areas which has become part of Seiyo City. We visited a middle age couple who have been running a guest house, named Dandanbatake (terraced field) where guests can experience various kinds of farming-related activities by staying with them. What we were interested in was Pizza making with the hand made stone oven!

Even before Kanman-beya had started, we had hosted quite a lot of people. Some were our old friends, others were those friends' friends and/or family members. Sometimes, we welcomed totally new people who visited us through our common friends.

Thinking about our agricultural life, we would like to value such communication and conversation with people, which we believe is the key of our life here. To let Kanman-beya grow as a stage for that, I sometimes discuss with Wakana about what is needed for this house. One day, going through city magazine, we found one article about "grant assistance for green-blue tourism in Seiyo City". We decided to visit the city office to learn more about it having taken whatever we could to introduce ourselves, including a magazine called "Sumu." and "Jyutaku-kenchiku", a coloring book "Motto Kolkata", and report of "National Symposium on Depopulation". This is not something we should be in hurry, rather should consider well whether we should apply now or not. So we haven't applied for the grant yet, but since then we have kept in touch with the official in charge. Anyway, Dandanbatake in Nomura is one of those projects that has been granted by Seiyo City, and we came to know about it through the person in charge. Then why didn't we go there for our learning experience? :)

Pizza making experiece was really fun! Umeo was also excited, and put various toppings by herself with such concentration. We saw and learned a lot there such as to how they built a pizza oven, open space in their garden and cooking spaces. However what made me really interested was the couple's experience through guest house management. I came to rediscover that "who does" gives stronger impact than "what is done" in a sense of defining how things work. Though they have totally different backgrounds and ways of thinking from us, our conversation lasted for a long time. We learned a lot from them, indeed. As for Umeo and Sukla, they got really excited in playing in a river beside their house, and slept deeply in the car on the way back.
