 Sukla walked with almost 1.8kg of Mochi(rice cake) this evening for his birthday-challenge. This is one of Japanese customs to put that amount of Mochi around one-year-old's birthday kid and see if s/he can walk or not, appreciating his/her growth and wishing future health and happiness. Learning from Umeo's experience, we divided the Mochi into half and put one on Sukla's back and the other on his belly side, then....he walked for several steps, which was quite well done! We laughed a lot with friends and neighbors and celebrated his birthday. We put one candle on his-favorite-rolled-egg instead of cake, Mrs. Saito gifted beeswax-crayons, and our Vietnamese friend, Han-chan, brought Vietnamese fried rolls. It was small, but nice and happy birthday evening. Wakana すくら餅 今日は（す）の一歳の誕生日。一升餅を担ぎます。 これまでの成長を祝い、今後の健康の祈る一升餅。（う）の時の経験から学び、今回は一升（約1.8キロ）の餅を二つに分けてリュックに入れ、（す）の背中とお腹に担がせました。人形に向かって・・・5，6歩歩きました。よくやった！見に来てくれた友人やご近所さんたちと大笑いして祝いました。 （す）の好物の卵焼きにロウソクを一本立てて吹き、斉藤家の奥さんが蜜蝋クレヨンのセットをくれました。後から、ベトナム人のハンちゃんが、手作りの春巻きを持って来てくれました。こうして、ささやかながらも素敵な誕生日の夜となりました。 （わ）
