We had four guests from Tokyo for several days - people who are now trying to find an alternative place to live, out of Tokyo.
Nuclear radiation has made them start thinking as to where and how they should and want to live. Having welcomed a baby last month, they are quite serious about moving.That's one of the reasons why they dropped by Akehama to see how we are living here.
We met them just before we left for Kolkata, which means five years ago, but they are just as they used to be. I met them through my NGO work in Tokyo when I was still a university student. At that time, I never imagined that we will become family friends. Time flies, but people don't change so easily, which makes me feel relieved.
In every conversation with them there was something warm and meaningful. Maybe because I like them so much, and they also appreciate the way we live here. We walked around the neighborhood, digged potatoes, and cooked together. Their four-year-old A-chan and Umeo got along well (they fought a lot too though).
Now I think they are still on their journey of searching for a place to settle; it should take some time, but I'm sure they will find one.

東京を離れて
何日間か、東京からのお客様をお迎えしていました。東京を離れて、家族で暮らす場所を探している人たちです。
彼らをそうさせているのは、放射能。これを避けるために、どこでどのように暮らしたいのかを自分たちに問い続けているのです。先月に新たな命を迎え、真剣に移住を考えているとのこと。そんなこともあって、明浜での暮らしぶりをのぞきに、立ち寄ってくれたのでした。
彼らに最後に会ったのは、コルカタに発つ直前ですから、もう5年前になります。でも少しも変わらずにさわやかなまま。そもそも、私がまだ大学生の時に、NGOでの仕事を通じて知り合った彼らです。あの頃は、今こんな風に家族ぐるみのお付き合いになるなんて、想像もしていませんでしたが、嬉しいことです。時が経つのは早いけれど、人はそう簡単には変わらない。そう感じて、ちょっと安心したりします。
彼らとの会話の一つひとつがどこか温かくて、意味があるようでした。多分、私も彼らが大好きだし、彼らも私たちの暮らしぶりを喜んでくれているからでしょう。一緒に近所を散策し、ジャガイモ掘りをし、料理をして食べる、そんな5日間でした。4歳の娘のAちゃんと（う）も良いけんか友達になったようです。
まだ、彼らは旅の途中でしょうか。移住先を見つけるのには時間がかかるでしょうが、きっとあの一家なら見つけられると思います。
