秋の仕上げ摘果の時だったでしょうか。ある日、ポンカンの樹の枝に蝶々のさなぎが留まっているのを見つけました。
幼虫の間は害虫なのですぐ取り除きますが、その目を潜り抜けてさなぎにまで成長したものには、「頑張ったなぁ」と声をかけ、讃えたい気持ちになりました。あまりみかん園に行く機会のない（わ）も喜ぶと思い、このさなぎの留まってる枝を切り取って家に持って帰ってきました。
枝は玄関に挿しておきました。
我が家にやってきた人には、さなぎが動く気配がないので、「もう死んでるんじゃない？」なんて言う人もいます。「そうかもなぁ」とは思いつつ、ま、春まで置いておこうと、放ったらかしにしていました。
この日、週末で遊びに来ていたあさひがお昼ごはんに帰る時、玄関で悲鳴をあげました。昼寝に寝っ転がったところでしたが、驚いてなんだなんだと下りていくと、黒い生き物が靴の脇で動いています。様子が変ですが、どうも蝶々のようです。もしやと思ってポンカンの枝を見てみると、さなぎの背が割れて、空になっています。孵ったのだ！
様子が変だったのは、本当に孵ったばかりで羽もまだ広がらず、腹部も大きいままだったためでした。「そのうち飛んでいくだろうから、玄関を開けておいてあげようよ」と（わ）と話して、るんるん気分でまた昼寝につきました。もう忘れてしまったけど、いい夢を見たかもしれません。

Swallowtail butterfly
It was in the last Autumn when I was doing flower-removal treatment in the field. I found a pupa of butterfly on a branch of Ponkan.
We usually remove young worms because they are harmful to citrus fruits, but this worm seemed survived and reached the stage of pupa. I wanted to praise him up and thought that Wakana, who has less chance to come to the field, would be happy to see this. So, I cut the branch off and brought home in the evening.
We kept the branch at the entrance. Some people found this and said "isn't this already dead?" because he had been completely still all the time. I also wondered that but decided to leave him till the Spring to come.
This day, Asahi, our weekends' regular guest, was about to leave for lunch, but she screamed at the entrance. I was about to fall asleep upstairs but went down to see what happened at the entrance. I saw a black creature moving near shoes. It looked weird, but I found the pupa had a crack and was empty. She came out from the pupa!
She looked weird because she was exactly the newly-emerged butterfly. Her wings were not fully opened yet and belly was still big.
"Let's leave the entrance door opened as she might fly away."
We talked like this, and I went back upstairs to continue my noon-nap. I was very happy and might have had a sweet dream then.
