Umeo and I had been to Okinawa last week visiting Yuki's 84-year-old grandma. We were invited by Yuki's parents to join their Okinawa trip to attend Okinawa's OBON festival, but Yuki was too busy to leave Akehama. That's why only the two of us flew to the island in the south!
Most of the relatives there saw Umeo for the first time and said:
"Exactly like Yuki in his childhood!"
"Wow, she definitely has an Okinawan face."
"What a big eater, Umeo!"
"She is so tough! look at her muscles...!"etc...
As for Umeo, she enjoyed the most in the nearby park and small beach rather than the famouse aquarium or other places for sightseeing. For her, Okinawa seems just like another part of Akehama! Oh, but here is something special she found there - Ikasumi-soup. She enjoyed it, spilling all over her face and stomach.
As for me, it was interesting to observe the people and environment that Yuki had grown up with. Their personalities are not exactly like him, but I could feel that Yuki has definitely been their favorite boy.
Now we are safely back in Akehama and find that summer has already reached here, too!

沖縄のオバア
（う）と私は先週、（ゆ）の84歳になるおばあちゃんを訪ねて沖縄に行っていました。というのも、清明（しーみー）と呼ばれる沖縄のお盆があるというので、（ゆ）の両親に強く招待されていたのでした。けれど、（ゆ）は忙しくて畑を離れることができません。なので2人だけで、いざ南の島へ！
沖縄の親戚の多くは、（う）を初めて見ます。彼らは口々に、
「ゆうきの子どもの頃そっくりねぇ！」
「まぁ、こりゃ沖縄の顔だわ」
「よく食べる子ねぇ！」
「なんてたくましいの！見てよ、この筋肉・・・」等々。
当の（う）はといえば、一番楽しそうにしていたのは、有名な水族館よりも何よりも、近所の公園と小さな砂浜。彼女にしてみれば、沖縄も明浜の延長にあるどこかに過ぎないのでしょう。そうそう、でも彼女も何か特別なものを沖縄で見つけました。それは、イカスミ汁。顔中、お腹中で楽しんでいました。
私は、（ゆ）が育った環境や親族を観察すること自体が興味深かったです。彼らの性格は、決して（ゆ）と同じような感じではないのですが、（ゆ）が彼らのお気に入りの子であることが十分に伝わってきました。
明浜に戻ってきてみると、どうやらもうこちらにも夏が到来しているようです。
