この頃は日が長くなりました。
夕方になってもまだ明るいので、目安にしている一日の労働時間を終えた後も、「さあ、もうひと仕事」と近くの畑や我が家の野菜畑に出向くことが多くなりました。
この日、ようやく暗くなって家に戻ると、玄関のノブにビニール袋がぶら下がっています。中には、何かヌルっとした生き物が入っています。よく見ると袋には、Sさんの名前がひらがなで書かれていました。
「ああ、あの人がやりそうなことだ」と、中身は蛸だろうとすぐ察しがつきました。すぐ彼に電話すると、「夕方まだ明るかったけん、潜って捕ったんよ」とのこと。塩でぬめりをとって、ぐらぐらに沸いたお湯でさっと湯がきなさいと、調理の指示までもらいました。
実は以前、釣り上げた大きなひらめと一緒に写ってる写真を年賀状に、そしてイラストを絵葉書に、彼のためにパソコンで作成してあげたことがあります。この蛸は、そのときの御礼を兼ねてとのこと。
葉書を作るなんてことは、僕にとっては何でもないこと。だけど彼にはわけのわからない、特殊技術のようです。逆に僕は、潜れば数分も上がってこない彼が、海の中でどんな風景を捉え、そして考え動いているのか、全く想像もできません。だけどその結果、意外なもののやり取りが生まれました。
知らないということを知っているということは、なかなか良いことだなぁ。なんて思いながら、ビールと蛸の刺身を食べました。

The gift under the eaves
Days grow longer day by day.
It doesn't get dark around 5pm yet, so I often do some additional work in nearby fields and our veg garden.
After it got dark finally, I went home and found a plastic bag hanging on the door of my house. There was a slimy creature inside. I also found Mr. S's name written on the bag in Hiragana.
"Yes, he is a kind of person who does this...:)"
I easily understand that an octopus was inside. I immediately called him, and then he said
"It wasn't dark yet after the work, so I went deep-sea diving and got that".
He kindly gave me a cooking instruction as taking slime off with salt and boiling it in hot water.
Actually, I've made a new year greeting card, with photo of him and Hirame (Paralichthys olivaceus) that he hooked, and a post card with my illustration for him before. I worked on PC that is something he had no idea about. To him, my simple PC work seemed something based on very special skills. He said the octopus was to thank to the work! As for me, I have no idea about what he has seen and thought in the deep sea when he is under the water for a few minutes. We don't know much about the world of each other, but because of that this unexpected exchange happened.
I enjoyed a can of beer and octopus thinking that it's good to know that there are things I don't know.
