Yuki spent almost three nights to complete this demon mask for kids who gathered today.
 It's Setsubun today, so we planned bean-throwing in our kids circle named Kintaro which is organized monthly in a local community hall. We asked the male staff of the hall to act as a demon wearing a mask so that kids caould throw beans. Well, we actually used paper balls instead of beans because there were many kids who are young enough to swallow them and get choked! It was really successful. As we all mother expected, kids started crying and screaming as soon as the demon came in. Some tried to throw balls against him to get rid of, and others were just running away. What happended to our Umeo? She was crying when the other kids were crying, but it was not because she was scared of the demon but she wanted to grab a digital camera that I was using....She actually liked the mask maybe because it looked like one of Hindu gods, Kali? For Setsubun, here people put the head of true sardine and holly at the entrance of each house to drive away disease-bringing evil spirits. Miyuki-san was kind enough to arrange it for us, so we had one too! As for food, people eat rolled-sushi wishing good lucks, which I never heard before, but later I came to know this culture is specially in western Japan. We missed rolled-suchi this year, so maybe next year! Wakana 節分 金太郎という、小さな子どものあるお母さんたちの集まりを、月に1回、公民館で開いています。 この日は節分、ということで、この公民館に勤めるお兄さんに鬼役をお願いして、鬼の面は（ゆ）が三晩かけて作り上げ、金太郎で豆まきをしました。豆まきと言っても、小さな子どもたちが飲み込んでしまわないように、紙製ボールを代用します。 結果は大成功。鬼が入ってくるなり大泣き、悲鳴をあげ始めました。みんな逃げ回っていますが、頑張ってボールを投げつけている子もいます。（う）も大声上げて泣きじゃくっていますが、この子の場合は、この写真を撮っているデジカメが欲しくて仕方ないだけ。 実際は、（う）はこのお面が大好きなんですよね。それはきっと、コルカタで見慣れた、ヒンドゥー教のカーリー神に似ているから。かしら？ この地域でも、イワシを刺したヒイラギの枝を、玄関前に魔よけに飾ります。我が家の分は、ありがたいことにみゆきさんが作って事前に届けてくれました。 さらに、巻き寿司を食べる家もあるのだとか。こんなことは聞いたことがなかったのですが、福を招く風習として、西日本ではよくおこなわれているみたいですね。来年は、私たちもやってみたいな。 （わ） |
