 It's the third Saturday of November again: Akehama's traditional autumn festival has come. Yuki was a member of Ushioni carriers this year also, which meant he had been really busy before and during the festival for the preparation and Ushioni performance. So with Sukla and Umeo, I went to see the festival. Usually small kids get afraid of Ushioni, but neither of them got scared. Maybe knowing that Yuki was inside the Ushioni helped them to feel familiar with the monster!  Last year, Umeo even said that she wanted to join Ushioni carrying. As for this year, she was interested in the festival's drumming. Sukla liked to scream like Ushioni. Oh, maybe this is how local kids start liking their festival...During lunch time, we can see a variety of gorgeous food served at many many houses, but we mostly stayed at the Okimura house and enjoyed the food served there.  This was the 5th time for me to see Akehama's autumn festival, and every year I have visited someone's home and enjoyed their food as a guest. However, this year I felt like it's time also for me to host and serve other people at Kanman-beya, as a resident of this area. Though I can't cook traditional food as well as the local women, but maybe there is something unique that can be served to the festival guests and even local people. Kanman-beya and our lifestyle are not usual anyway, so we can think of something different. By chance, I got to know that S-chan, who is around my age and also from outside Ehime, feels the same. She has a little child too, so we could do something together hosting jointly. The next festival will be different for us, I believe! Wakana 秋祭り 10月の第三土曜日がやってきました。明浜の秋祭りの日です。 （ゆ）は昨年同様、「牛鬼」のかき手の一人です。当日はもちろん、準備の時期からずっと準備で忙しくて大変です。祭りの前夜からもうずっと別行動ですので、祭りの練りなどは、（う）と（す）と三人で観に出ます。大きな牛鬼を見ると、大抵の小さな子どもは怖がるものですが、例年二人とも全くその様子なし。おそらく、（ゆ）が中に入っているので親近感がわいているのかもしれません。 昨年は、「自分も牛鬼に入りたい」と駄々をこねていた（う）。今年は、牛鬼が暴れている間中ずっと響いているテンポ良い太鼓が気になる様でした。じっと傍でみて観察しています。（す）はといえば、牛鬼の掛け声が気に入ったようで、以来ずっと家でも叫んでいます。こうして地元の子どもは祭りに馴染んでいくのか、と思いました。 今回の祭りは、私にとって5回目の明浜秋祭り見学。お昼時には、家々に並ぶごちそうを食べて回ります。今年は沖村家にずっといて、子どもたちと一緒にごちそうを楽しんでいました。けれど、こうして「お客さま」でいるのも、もう何だかなぁとひしひし感じ始めています。地元のお母ちゃんたちのように、おいしい伝統料理は作れないけれど、「かんまん部屋」で出来る祭りのおもてなしが何かあるに違いない。そもそも私たちの暮らしと「かんまん部屋」の在りようは普通ではないのだから、ここ特有の「お客」をやってみたらいいのではないかしら。なんて（ゆ）とも話していたら、同世代のＳちゃんもそんな風に思い始めていると知りました。彼女も小さい娘がいて、県外からの移住者です。来年の秋祭りは、何かが違うかも！これまでよりも、より暮し手として祭りに参加する道を模索してみたいと思います。 （わ）
