（わ）が（う）と（す）を連れて帰省して、何日か経ちました。暗くなるまで畑仕事をして、帰ってくると誰もいない、灯りもついていない。そんな寂しさよりも、あれもやっておかなきゃ、これもやっておかなきゃと、食事の仕込みや洗濯、郵便物や領収書の仕分けなど、「こりゃ休む間もないよ」というくらい狂ってしまったリズムに辟易して参っている日々です。
お昼ごはんの片づけをしていたとき、（う）が「よんちゃん」と呼んで親しんでいる近所のバアやんがやってきました。 「フライにしたけん」と、魚や玉子、野菜のてんぷらを持ってきてくれました。おかずの入ったパックには、「居らなんだらいけん思ち」と、“よんちゃんより”って紙が入ってました。「いい子にしとろうかの、あたしゃ寂しゅうて寂しゅうて」と（う）のことを気にかけて、一方的にしゃべったと思ったら、あーははと笑って帰っていってしまいました。 フライはこの日の晩御飯にいただきました。元気もらっちゃいました。 それから2日後、またよんちゃんがやってきました。今度はおかずのパックが2つに増えて、前より大きな紙に、また大きな字で、やっぱり“よんちゃんより”と書いてありました。 「昨日電話あったがよ」、東京からかかってきた（う）からの電話のことです。「おっちゃんからもらった小遣いであれ買うたじゃの、なんかしゃんかんかしゃん3つくらい言いよったわい。そしたらよんちゃんにもお土産買うて帰るよー、ち言うての」と興奮気味にしゃべったら、あー、と甲高い笑い声でぱちんと一拍して、帰っていきました。 おかずはまた魚のフライと、酢の物、和え物でした。この地域ながらの甘い味付け。 よんちゃんの様子を思いうかべて思わず口元が緩むのに気をつけながら、口に運びます。僕たちは豊かな生活を送っているなぁとしみじみしながら、作り置きしておいたチャーハンと一緒に、この日も晩御飯に食べました。 （ゆ） From Yon-chan It's been a few days since Wakana left for Tokyo with Umeo and Sukla. It's kind of a lonely feeling when I see no one and no lights at home after coming back from work, however to be honest, there is no such time because I've got so much to do during Wakana's absence! I have to cook, do laundry, sort mails and receipts etc...My daily rhythm went totally crazy! When I was washing dishes after my lunch, one of neighbors came. She is one of Umeo's best friends, and Umeo calls her "Yon-chan". "I fried these", she said and brought a plateful of various fries such as fish, vegetables, and egg. I smiled not only looking at those dishes, but also a note saying "from Yon-chan". She said "in case you were not at home". She started talking, "I've been wondering how Umeo is doing. I'm missing her so much..." She kept talking whatever she wanted to say, mainly about Umeo though, and laughed loudly, then went back. I enjoyed the fries for dinner. Well, I got invigorated by Yon-chan anyway! Two days later, she came again. This time, she brought two different dishes and, of course, with note saying "from Yon-chan" in much bigger letters than last time. She started talking again. "I've received a call!" That was about a call from Umeo in Tokyo. "She said that she bought some souvenirs with pocket money that my husband gave her before she left. She mentioned that she bought this and that including something for me too!" Yon-chan was totally excited. She clapped her hands once laughing in a high-pitched voice, then she went back. That day's dishes were fried fish, vinegared food, and vegetables with dressing. They were all quite sweet, as people in this area usually make. I had those for dinner along with fried rice that I'd prepared. While eating, I recalled how happy Yon-chan was and smiled over it. I really think that we have an enriched life here. Yuki |
