Happy birthday Sukla and Umeo!



Even if it seems to be something small and simple, it IS a big matter to kids, sometimes.
When I saw their faces at their birthday party, I came to understand that, for REAL! Sukla and our next-door-boy A-kun, who share birthday within the same month, had a birthday dinner party together in Sep. in our home, and Umeo and S-san, A-kun's mother, who also share birthday in the same month, had another party in Oct. Oh, yes, we are a big family in Narada now.

Since A-kun didn't prefer a soft sponge cake, and Sukla had been wishing a cake with the decorations of a dragon (!), my challenge to make it both happen. Well, if I were really good at making sweets, I could have tried by myself, but this time, I used this opportunity to explore the possibility within Hayakawa town. I wanted to try a local cake shop, which has been running in Hayakawa for many years. When I talked to a lady of the shop, I was so impressed by her attitude towards sweet making. As she consulted with me, I could feel how much she had been putting her heart into it. And, here you go - the boys were both so happy with a beautiful yogurt mousse cake with detailed dragon design on it.



As for Umeo, her wish was to eat a bucketful of custard pudding with a large spoon. Her image was like digging into a pudding-hill, imagining as if she herself is climbing up the hill....I talked to Kagiya, a café in Narada, and M-chan of Kagiya took the challenge of preparing a mega custard pudding for Umeo. I can't forget the moment when M-chan showed up with a huge salad bowl filled with custard pudding. When she turned it up side down in front of us, then a yellow hill that was radiant and supple was on a large plate. M-chan was so nervous because it was her first experience of making such a huge pudding using 3L of milk and 15 eggs...! Not only Umeo, but also all of us were impressed and appreciated her effort and challenge.

With their favorite sweets and people around, Sukla turned 7 and Umeo turned 9 this autumn.

夢のケーキ


お誕生日おめでとう、子どもたち。

大人にしてみれば何だか小さなことでも、子どもにとっては大きな出来事。そんなものが、確かにあるみたい。
誕生日を祝う食事の場で、（す）や（う）の表情を見ていたら、そのことがよくよく分かりました。（す）とお隣りの中学生のA君の合同誕生日会を9月に、また（う）とA君ママであるSさんの合同誕生日お祝いを10月に、うちの食卓で行いました。（す）の時には、同級生の家族もうわさを聞いて駆けつけてくれたなんて嬉しいことがあったり、（う）の時にはSさんの職場の人たちに声をかけて、大人率の高い時間となりました。奈良田にて、家族の広がりを感じています。

A君はスポンジケーキが苦手だということと、（す）はアニメ・ドラゴンボールに出てくる神龍のケーキを熱望しているということ、これらをクリアするバースデーケーキの準備が私の挑戦でした。お菓子作りが得意で、素敵なケーキが手作りできればなぁ、と何度思ったことでしょう。けれど、今回は、早川町内での可能性を広げるチャンスにしようと、地元のケーキ屋さん「菓子工房やませみ」さんに相談することにしました。お店に電話すると、作ってくださる女性が丁寧な応対。お話しをしていると、どんなに心を込めてお菓子作りをしているのかがしみじみ伝わってくるような素敵な方でした。ケーキが届く前から早くも満足感。でも仕上がった、細かい線の神龍が描かれたヨーグルトムースケーキを二人の前に置いた時の歓声を聞いて、感動が倍増しました。

翌月は（う）のお祝い。秋は誕生日が続く我が家です。誕生日のプレゼントにはあまり執着のない（う）でしたが、どうしても「バケツほどのプリン」を食べてみたいのだとか。さて今回はどうしましょう、と考えて、（ま）の時にお願いした奈良田の鍵屋さんにひとまず相談してみます。いつも子どもたちとも仲良くしてくれているスタッフのSが、この挑戦を受けてくれることになりました。焼きプリンなのか、スプーンですくうのでいいのか、いや、やはりプリントいえばお山型で、ぷるぷる感を期待しているのか・・そして当日、大きなお山型のガラスのサラダボール一杯のプリンを抱えて現れたSの姿が忘れられません。彼女もいっしょにテーブルにつき、皆の前でいざ、逆さにして型抜き！Sのドキドキ感と、見守る（う）のワクワクの鼓動が聞こえてくるような瞬間でした。・・・型抜きは見事成功。（う）は大はしゃぎで飛び跳ね、Sも安堵の半泣き。牛乳3リットルに卵15個・・・
いやはや、期待以上の感動プリンとなりました。

素敵なお祝いと本気の大人たちに囲まれながら、（す）は7歳に、（う）はこの秋9歳になりました。おめでとう。
