田舎、特に過疎ということと向き合っている地域は、「教育」「医療」に不安を抱えています。明浜も例外ではなく、各地区に診療所はありますが、病院となると、少なくとも隣町までいかなければなりません（2004年に合併して同じ西予市となった宇和町も、気分的には隣町）。
先日柏餅を食べていたら、もう10年以上前に治療した、奥歯の銀の詰め物がポロリと出てきました。
ありゃ、歯科医院はどこだろう、とタウンページをめくっていたら、「高山にも歯医者があるらしいよ」と（わ）が言います。親しくしているMさんが、通院していたとのこと。診療所と併設されている、高山診療所歯科のことでした。週の3日を高山地区、2日を俵津地区と巡回しています。
畑仕事の段取りもあるので、近いのはありがたいこと。ちょうど高山地区に巡回している時に予約を取ったので、以来、ここへ通っています。
すると、これがまた、気持ちがよいのです。
治療椅子に腰をかけると、そこから高山の海の風景が一望できます。最初に通院した時は、故障で冷房が使えず、窓を開けて、風が通っていました。それがまたよかった。麻酔や、治療の合間々々の待ち時間をゆったり過ごします。
これまで、歯科に限らず、医療というと、少し閉じこもった場所で治療をおこなうイメージがあり、治療が終わると「やっと終わった」という気持ちでしたが、なんだか、通院するのがむしろ楽しみなのです。
あと数回、通院が必要とのことです。治療に長くかかるのは考えものですが、せっかくなので、残りの数回は気分転換のつもりで通院しようと思います。

Takayama Clinic
Country side, especially places suffering from depopulation, has concerns about "education" and "medical services". Our place, Akehama, is not an exception. Each areas has clinic, but if you want to go to a hospital, you need to drive to the next town at least. (Uwa Town and Akehama Town were synoecized in 2004, and is now under the same Seiyo City, but still, we feel that Uwa is the "next" town.)
The other day, when I was eating Kashiwa-Mochi (rice cake wrapped in an oak leaf), a silver filler came out from one of my teeth (molar). It was already 10 years since I had it filled.
"Oops, where is the nearest dentist?" When I was flipping over the telephone book, Wakana said "there is a dentist in Takayama, I heard of". According to her, one of our friends, Ms.M used to go there. Then I found out that it's a dentistry attached to Takayama Clinic. It's opened three days a week in Takayama area and other two days in Tawarazu area.
Since I need to manage my work schedule for the field, the nearby clinic is very convenient. Soon, I made a reservation in Takayama, and ever since I go there regularly.
Well, actually I like the place.
When I sit on a chair for treatment, there is a wonderful view of Takayama's sea in front of me. On the first day, the air conditioner was out of order, so windows were opened. Feeling the fresh breeze, I could spend a relaxed time there.
I had had this claustrophobic image of medical facilities, including dentist, and I used to feel "phew, finally done!" whenever I left. However, I do indeed like to go the Takayama dentist.
The dentist said that I need to come a few more times for treatment. Well, since I got this chance, I shall enjoy it. :)
