This week, I had some works as a translator for some Philipino trainees who recently arrived at Ehime. They had orientations conducted by the local police and fire station.
When I left home, Umeo had just fallen asleep; Indeed, I expected this because it was around Umeo's usual nap time. So I called Hikaru, our neighbor and 3rd-grade-junior high student, to sit beside Umeo while she was sleeping. Hikaru is a good friend of Umeo, so I knew that even if Umeo woke up, she could handle her. Hikaru came with her summer homework and sat next to Umeo. I felt relieved and left home.
One hour later, when I came back, I saw both Umeo and Hikaru in a deep sleep! But I found Asahi, Hikaru's younger sister, sitting next to them. The sisters worked as a team, one of them keeping awake to fulfill the duty .
We all enjoyed cream puff, which I got in return for that day's translation, together. Thanks to the great help I get from neighbors, I'm slowly expanding my activities here.

お留守番
今週は通訳の仕事が何回かありました。最近愛媛県に到着した、フィリピン人の農業研修生向けのオリエンテーションの通訳です。地元の警察と消防署がプレゼンテーターでした。
家を出る直前に（う）が寝入ってしまいました。いつもの昼寝の時間帯だったので、こうなるかなとは思っていました。そこで、近所の中学3年生のひかるちゃんを呼んで、横に座っていてくれるよう頼みました。彼女は快諾してくれ、夏休みの宿題を携えてやってきました。ひかるは（う）の仲良しなので、もし起きたとしても何とかなると知っていました。これで安心、と出かけたわけです。
1時間ほどして帰ってみると、部屋にいるのは爆睡している（う）とひかる。ぎょっと思って横に目をやると、そこにはひかるの妹のあさひがちょこんと座っていました。二人はチームワークを発揮して、（う）番をするという役目を立派に全うしたのでした。
その後、その日の通訳のお礼としてもらってきたシュークリームをみんなでほうばったのでした。こうしたご近所さんの協力もあって、ちょっとだけ活動を広げているのでした。
