 "O-kata, okata!" Instead of saying "Good morning!", Makasa woke up saying the chant of Okatabuchi that we practiced a lot one day before. Yes, this is the day of Okatabuchi after almost 40 years in Narada. We planned and announced that we shall start from 1pm. Traditionally, only small boys are supposed to join this ceremony, but without the girls' help, it would have been too hard to make it happen this time! In the morning, the boys were busy pretending and playing Samurai with their own swords made from Katsunoki, so Umeo took the responsibility of coloring the special wooden sticks, with which they were going to smack Ha-chan's hips. Umeo did a great job, and the sticks looked so funky and powerful!  Once the kids started marching around the Narada settlement, shouting Okatabuchi chants, we found many people around to watch the event. That was much more than we expected! There were not only Narada neighbors, but also visitors (tourists) of Shirane-kan and Kagiya. I saw some from other settlements as well. When the kids reached Ha-chan's house, she was inside her house as she was supposed to be. Boys went in and brought her out. Singing Okatabuchi song, the kids repeated smacking her for quite some time! They could actually hit or poke her on her hips, but they were too shy to do so, hah! As a finish to the ceremony, the kids went to a persimon tree and hit the tree saying "give many fruits, give many fruits, otherwise we'll cut you down!" Well, it seems like fruits represent babies to be born. Anyway, under the persimon tree, the whole ceremony was over. It must have been quite a big job for the kids, well done! They looked so happy receiving some sweets as a treat. Early in the evening we were all relaxed after a long day around the Kotatsu (table over electric heater)! Makasa watching some cartoons on TV, Sukla somehow trying to finish his remaining homework, and Umeo practicing the Shamisen. I was preparing dinner and Yuki was working on editing the recorded movies of Okatabuchi of the day.(Thanks a lot Y-chan for recording the whole event!) Then here you go - By the way, one day before we were watching an old video - Okatabuchi of old days in Narada. In both times, the boys look so naughty! Oh, yes, we had such an interesting Koshogatsu in collaboration with the Narada seniors and little kids. As for me, I am passionate about making these things happen (like Tochi-mohci making as well), not only because me and the kids get excited, but also I can see big smiles of the inhabitants of Narada. I'm fullfiled and satisfied when I see them laughing and being happy. Thank you very much everyone, for this wonderful Koshogatsu event. Who is going to be the next bride to be hit by kids? Wakana  小正月～オカタブチ当日編 「オーカタ、オカタ！」 いつもは「おはよー」と寝ぼけ声で言いながら起きてくる（ま）が、今朝は前日に練習した、オカタブチの掛け声を唱えながら起き上がりました。そうだ、今日は40数年ぶりと言われる、奈良田のオカタブチが行われる日なのです。 一時開始を予定して、集落の人たちには連絡をしてありました。伝統的には低学年の男の子たちが行う行事とのことですが、該当者が二人しかいないので、ここは女の子の力も借りてやるべし、ということになっていました。 朝のうち、男子二人はもらったカツノキの端っ切れで作った剣で戦いごっこにいそしんでいたので、オカタブチ用の棒の色付けは、（う）が担当してくれることになりました。（う）も楽しみながら、なかなかポップで強そうな色合いに完成！ 一時になり、「オーカタ、オカタ！」と叫びながら子どもたちが集落を練り歩き出すと、想像以上に多くの人が見守ってくれています。奈良田集落の人たちだけでなく、白根館や鍵屋に来ていた観光客の方々も面白そうについて歩いて来てくれました。  Haちゃんのおうちの前まで来ると、中で出てくるのを渋ることになっているお嫁さんのHaちゃんを、男子二人が呼びに入っていきます。彼女を連れだして、子どもたちでぐるりと囲ったら、唄いながらのお尻叩きです。もっと本当に叩いたり突っついたりしてもいいのに、案外遠慮がちな子どもたちに、周囲で見ている大人たちは大笑い。とてもかわいい。大声で叫びながら、ずっと繰り返すのもなかなか大変だったろうなぁ。 一連のオカタブチは、柿の木のところまで行って、今度は「実をたくさん成らせよ！」と言いながら木を叩いて締めくくるのだそうです。実だくさんと子だくさんをかけているとのこと。子どもたちもそこまでやりきって、満足顔。ご褒美のお菓子を嬉しそうにほおばりました。  全てが終わって、うちに戻ってきた早めの夕方。皆こたつに入って、のんびり思い思い過ごします。（ま）はさすがに疲れた様子で眠そうにアニメを見、（す）は残りの宿題と格闘し、（う）は軽やかに三味線の練習。私は夕飯の支度を、そして朝から消防団の出初式に行っていた（ゆ）は戻ってきていて、オカタブチの動画の編集に取り掛かってくれていました。（撮影を担当してくれたYちゃん、本当にありがとう！）。それが上にあげている、動画です。  ところで、ずっと前に奈良田で撮影されたオカタブチの映像を見ながら予習をしていました。どちらの時代も、少年たちのいたずらな表情は同じですね。 昔を知る奈良田の先輩たちと、ただただ元気なだけの新入りたちが、一緒になって実現した小正月の一コマとなりました。自分自身のことを思うと、栃餅作りもそうなのですが、「よし、やろう！」とスイッチが入って熱が入るのは、おそらく自分たちの好奇心が満たされるからだけではなくて、もともとの奈良田の人たちが嬉しそうにするからに違いありません。彼らが一緒に大笑いして、楽しそうにしてくれているのを見ると、なんとも言えない充実感。この予感が、スイッチなのだろうなぁ。この素敵な小正月のひと時を、皆さん本当にどうもありがとう。さぁ、次はいつ誰が子どもたちにお尻叩かれるのだろう？ （わ） ※『おかたぶち』（小正月の年中行事）については、こちらを参照してください。 | カテゴリ： どれみ |
