仔牛近道

Our little Makasa has turned into 4 today. We organized a small birthday party for her, inviting her favorite people in Hayakawa town.

Our sinior friends, Y-grandma and M-san, were also happy to join the party to celebrate Makasa's party, so the evening was much more enjoyable than we expected. Makasa was born at Ehime, and now she still remembers the house we used to live in. She calls it "the house with a porch", but her memories are slowly getting replaced by what's happening here. The gathering reminded me of the ambience of where we used to live in Ehime, Khamman-beya, and made me a little bit sentimental, but at the same time, I could feel that the new days of our future are actually after moving here with new friends. I miss our friends in Shikoku, but I'm sure I'm going to see them again if it's meant to be. "See you, when I see you!"....this is what friends of mine used to say to me when I was leaving South Africa in my 20s, they loved saying that instead of "good-bye" and I liked it.

Happy birthday, Makasa! You are now "the face" of Uehara family in Narada, and such a key person to help us get settled here. I appreciate her easy-going personality and big smile. Thanks, again, for being with us!

万傘、4歳になる


　我らのちびすけの（ま）は、本日4歳となりました。日頃、（ま）を可愛がってくれている近所の友人たちを招いて、ささやかな誕生日会を行いました。

　当日になってみると、2軒隣のMさんも、Yばあちゃんも、快く（ま）を祝いに寄ってくれたので、想像していたよりもだいぶ賑やかになりました。（ま）は愛媛に暮らしているときに生まれて、今でも前の家のことを「縁側のおうち」と呼んでは思い出を語ったりすることがあります。それでも少しずつ、新しい生活の記憶と置き換わっていっているのは確かに感じるのです。その晩のわいわいの集まりは、前の家「かんまん部屋」での様子を思い出させる部分もあり、ちょっと切なくなったりもしましたが、同時に、新しく出会った友人たちとここでの暮らしが確実に動き出していることも実感しました。四国の友人たちに会いたい気持ちはあります。でも、その時が来ればまた会える、そんな気がしているので、不思議とさびしさはないのです。「次会う時、また会おうぜっ！」私が20代の時に南アフリカから帰国する際の別れ際、「さようなら」の代わりに友人たちがそう言って見送ってくれました。そんな軽快さが好きで、今でもよく覚えています。

　お誕生日おめでとう、（ま）。今、あなたはここ奈良田で間違いなく上原家の「顔」であり、私たちが暮らしていくための素敵な鍵を握っている。あなたのそのお気楽な性格と満面の笑顔に感謝。一緒にいてくれて、どうもありがとう！
