宮城県の石巻へ行って、帰ってくるまでにとったスケッチです。
とった日付が異なるものも、ひとまとめにしておきます。
I made sketches during our stay in Ishinomaki-city, Miyagi prefecture.
石巻での最初の仕事は、炊き出しの手伝いでした。ここで、救援物資の支給もおこなわれました。
The first work we did in Ishinomaki-city was helping preparation of meals outdoors. Distribution of relief goods was also done here.
炊き出しがおこなわれたのは、ある地区の小さな神社境内。お宮の前にブルーシートを敷いて、救援物資が並べられます。興味深いグッズがありました。
スケッチは、物資の配給にあたり、集った被災者を整列しているところ。
Meals outdoors were prepared in a small premises of one shrine. A big blue sheet was spread out to put all relief goods. Some of those goods were quite unique.
I made a sketch of those who were bringing afflicted people into a line for the distribution.
被災者の中に、保育所か何かの園長先生がいたようです。
物資配給の開始時刻まで、神社前の通りで、炊き出しに来ていた、することのない被災した子どもたちを集めてあやし始めました。みんなで手をつないで、くるくる回りはじめました。若いボランティアが、東京辺りからたくさん参加していましたが、彼らも加わって、輪はどんどん大きくなります。
Among the afflicted people, there was a person who was maybe a principal of pre-school or so. He had started playing with kids until the distribution started. Those kids were just hanging around the shrine. They held hands each other and made a big circle, and started turning around. There were young volunteers from Tokyo area, and they, too, joined the circle. It was becoming bigger and bigger.
この炊き出し、本当にいろんな人が集まっています。
There were, indeed, various kinds of people there.
炊き出しの準備をする人、配給物資を得るために並ぶ人、子どもと遊ぶ人、たたずむ人、などなど。みんなここに集った人たちです。
Some prepared hot meals, some stood for distribution of relief goods, some played with kids, others just remained standing. They were all who got gathered here.
この地区は、津波の被害はさほど大きくありませんでしたが（とはいえ、被災しています）、堤防が壊れたため、しばらく毎日、潮の干満にともなって、床上浸水していたそうです。簡易堤防が築かれ、強力な排水ポンプが整備され、浸水がなくなったのは、つい一週間くらい前のことだとか。つまり3ヶ月余りの間、ずっとそのような状況が続いていたことになります。そのためか、神社前のこの通りは、車がほとんど走りません。
Tsunami didn't hit this area that badly (still, it IS struck by Tsunami), but people suffered from inundation above floor level every day because of destroyed banks. It was only a week ago when people didn't see inundation because simple banks were made, and strong drain pumps were put in place. This means that people had suffered for as long as three months! That's maybe why we saw only a few cars in this street in front of the shrine.
すると、壊れたブロックを椅子にしたり、自転車は置きっぱなしだし、子どもがはねて、飛び回って、何か、通りが本来持っている、豊かな空間性がよみがえったように見えました。
Then, some started using broken blocks as chairs, some bicycles were just left, kids started jumping and playing around etc...I saw rich extencity came through, which a street originally has.
炊き出しには2団体が参加していました。そのうちの一つは、このような屋台トラックを保持していて、ここで調理してふるまいます。このスタイルの好いところは、小回りがきくところ。
このように、津波の被害の比較的小さかった住宅地には、浸水の及ばない、二階部に住み続ける人が少なからずいます。こういう場所はかえって、救援物資や炊き出しが回ってきません。こういう地区を回ることが出来ます。地区の人なら誰でも分かる、オープンスペースさえあればいいわけです。
Two organizations were there for distribution of hot meals; one of them had this kind of truck where meals were cooked and served. It was zippy, and worked well.
For example, the car could go around residential areas where some people are still living in the upper stories instead of staying at evacuation centers. Relief goods and hot meals don't really reach this kind of area, so the zippy car works. It requires only an open space where is familiar to local people.
明浜から復興の手伝いに参加したのは、僕を含めて5人。ボランティアに積極的なタイプの人間ではなく、皆、ただの若手農家です。
隅っこの方で、ずっと、子どもたちが遊ぶための水風船を作っていました。現場では、目立たない、地味な仕事をし続ける人も必要です。良い仕事をしているなと思い、ペンをとりました。やがて水風船で遊ぶよりも、作ることをしたくなった子どもたちがちらほら集まってきて、まったりとした雰囲気が生まれます。
We were five, including myself, who came from Akehama to help. We were not such people who were very active to do volunteer works, but simple young farmers.
Sitting in a corner, we were making water balloons for kids to play. In such a occasion, this kind of unspectacular work is also required. I made a sketch as I thought this was a good work. Soon, kids came to join us one after another and started enjoying making water balloons instead of playing with them. The atmosphere was quite relaxing there.
炊き出しは、片付けも案外早い時間に終わったので、その後、被災地を見て回りました。
It didn't take such a long time to clean up the hot meals, so we looked around the disaster site.
女川町という、津波被害の非常に大きかった、よくニュースなどにも映る場所まで行ってきました。小高い丘の上にある女川町立病院の前の駐車場から辺りを見渡すと、すっかり、町は流されてしまっていました。目の前には、ビルが倒れて横たわっていました。
We went the area called Onagawa-cho where was hit by Tsunami badly, and is also often talked about in the news. We went up a hill and reached the parking area of town's hospital. We could see the whole town taken away; there was a building lying down in front of us.
日和山と呼ばれる場所にも上りました。
We also went up the place called Hiyori-yama.
簡易堤防がきれいに並べられ、所々にがれきの仮置き場が見えます。別の日に、この中のひとつのがれきの仮置き場の近くを通ったら、煙が上がっていました。内部で自然発火しているのでしょう。
梅雨の雨の後で、旧北上川は濁っていました。すっかり流されてしまった町の住宅跡は、同じような色をしていました。
Simple banks were tidily set in line, and rubble were tentatively piled up in some places. The other day, smoke appeared from one of these piles. I thought it fired spontaneously.
After many rainy days, the water of Kitakami river was muddy. The color of the town, which was totally washed away, looked the same.
2日後、あらためて日和山に上りました。冷静に見渡すと、被災した様子を見るために、多くの人が見学に来ているようです。
Two days later, we went up Hiyori-yama again. Looking around after calming down, we realized that there were many people who also came up to see how the town was.
次のスケッチは、既掲のスケッチの反対方面、旧北上川を遡る方向に見たものです。
I made another sketch from the other side of the previous one. I was looking towards upstream of Kitakami river.
あんなところまで津波はのぼっていったのか、かなり遠くの方まで影響があったようです。
この場所からの眺めは非常にきれいだったそうです。ブルーシートのような色の簡易堤防が、くっきり浮かび上がっていました。
I could see the huge effect of Tsunami. It's amazing that Tsunami went up till that far.
最終日、石巻を離れ、仙台に移動してからのスケッチです。
On the final day, we left Ishinomaki-city and moved to Sendai-city.
お土産でも買おうかと訪れたビルの下は、アメ横仙台というところの近くで、八百屋や魚屋、日用品店などが集まって、市場のにぎわいを見せていました。
復興の手伝いをしている間は、コンビニ弁当や、大型量販店にテナント入りしたレストラン、大型チェーン店などで食事をとることが多かったです。これがあたり前だったので気づきませんでしたが、このにぎわいに心が躍り、それまでの生活の不自然さに気づきました。
松山に着いたとき、被災地から戻ってきたのだという実感が、なかなかわきませんでした。同行したメンバー皆が同じような思いだったようです。
We visited the area near Ameyoko-sendai, and there were vegetable shops, fish shops, grocery shops, etc..where was crowded and looked alive like a bazaar.
During the work in Ishinomaki-city, we used to eat simple and/or fast foods of convenience stores and chain stores, but until I met this active and energetic bazaar, I didn't realize how unnatural those eating habits had been.
When we arrived at Matsuyama, I didn't really feel like we were back from the disaster area. The other members seemed to have similar feelings.
最後のスケッチです。これはおまけ。
This is the last sketch I took. It's a throw-in for you though.
羽田空港のディスカバリーミュージアムというスペースで、『和敬清寂』と題した「茶席 千利休展」という小さな展示会が催されていました。この中の、心ひかれた3点を、飛行機に乗り込む直前に再入場して、スケッチ。
A small exhibition, "tea-ceremony: exhibition of SEN no Rikyu" titled as "Wakeiseijyaku" was held in the Discovery Museum of Haneda airport. I did re-entry to make sketches of these three which I really liked.
