地震が起きた時、電車に乗っていた。電車が緊急停車した。車掌さんの誘導で、ある小学校に移動した。それからが大変だった。この電車はこの後、津波で脱線した。
体育館に避難するように指示された。小学校の校長が、「学校が汚くなるから」という理由で、そのように判断した。この判断が非常に悪かった。
津波の第一波で、足元、膝のところまで水が上がってきた。その水流の勢いもかなり強かった。これは危ない、と判断し、体育館の中二階部の観覧スペースに移動することになった。
避難民の中には赤ちゃんもいた。最初は泣いていたが、途中から泣かなくなった。脱水症状になっていたのだと思う。嘔吐していた。
そういう子と、お母さんが最初に観覧スペースに上がった。高校生は大人扱いで、後回しにされた。車いすの高齢者も後回しになった。中年男性が自分の膝腿を台にして、みんなを上にあげていた。自分が足を乗せた時には、もう腫れ上がっていた。それがよくわかった。
急に水が流れ込んできて、車いすが倒れた。水は渦を巻いていた。黒い車がそのまま流れ込んできて、すごい音が響いた。本当にびっくりした。
あっという間にバスケットリングの高さまで水位が上がった。間一髪、屋根の上に乗り上がることが出来た。自分より後の人たちはダメだっただろう。校庭で、避難してきた人たちを誘導していた人も、後から来た車も、みんなダメだっただろう。観覧スペースで、校長を「恨んでやるー！」なんて、みんな言っていた。
男の人たちは勇敢だと思った。カーテンなどをつなぎ合わせて紐を作り、体に巻き付けて、流れてきた看板をイカダ代わりにして乗り出し、少しでも息のある人を見つけては引き揚げていた。もちろん、水面が死体だらけの中でだ。地震の後はひどく寒く、すでに体力を消耗していた人も多かったため、引き揚げられた人の中には、静かに息を引き取る人もいた。自分は靴を持って上がったが、裸足のままで上がった人が多く、足先が青くなって凍傷になったような人もいた。
木に登って掴まって、踏ん張っている人もいた。体育館から、みんなで「頑張れー！」と声をかけた。
渦の中、がれきの板に乗って、犬が一匹、くるくる回っていた。その犬も助かった。観覧スペースに避難した人の飼い犬で、その後は、その犬は飼い主のそばから離れなかった。
周りは死体だらけだった。湾岸戦争の時、重油が流れて鳥がべとべとになっていたのを思い出す。死体はみんなそんな感じで、黒光りして、蝋人形のようで、恐ろしかった。死体は上を向いて、みんな同じ顔をしているように見えた。
朝になって、来た道を見て、怖くなった。がれきがひどくて、山となって積み上がっていた。水流で倒された車いすの老人は、その時びっくりして目を開いたのだろう、そんな表情で死んでいた。
3日後、自衛隊の人が来て、初めて毛布にくるまった。自衛隊の車で次の場所まで連れていってもらったが、そこもダメだった。「どうしますか？」と隊員に聞かれたが、「タクシーで行きますから」と答えていた。混乱して、状況を全く認識できていなかった。
街中死体だらけだった。水が流れている中を、死体が流れている。それが普通で、子どもも、あたり前と感じているように見えた。普通に横を歩いていた。今でももちろん、死体が出てくることがある。前は、何かを掘り起こしたらよく出てきた。車の中には、何人もの死体が重なっていることもあって、恐ろしくてのぞき込むことができなかった。体育館から小学校に移動する時も、死体をまたがなければならなかった。卒業式の練習のあった子たちは、学校に残っていた。子どもたちの精神的ショックは大きいだろう。
全焼した小学校（市立門脇小学校？）もある。油は水の表面に浮いて、津波と共にやってくる。そこへ車も流れてきて、すごい勢いで衝突する。それで燃え出すのだろう。2日間燃え続けて真っ黒になった。プールから水をとって裏山から放水していたが、水圧が足らなくなり、燃え尽きるのを待ったそうだ。
二階が助かったところもあるが、二階に上がっただけでは助かっていないだろう。第2波以降、水位はもっと上昇した。屋根に移って、その屋根が外れて流されたことで助かった人がいる、というのは聞いたことがあるが。
自分の自宅も、勤務先の事務所も基礎しか残っていない。建物はすべてなくなった。自宅には、近くに立っていた鉄塔が突き刺さっていた。
同じ場所に、違うものを建てるのは認められない。全く同じものを建てるのは構わないそうだ。しかし、同じものを建てても、保険はもう入れない。ローンを組んで家を建てた人は大変だろう。自己破産する人がたくさん出るだろう。
泥棒もよく入っている。二階部だけ残った家も多いので、そのようなところはひどい。

こんな話を聞いてきました。
一週間、東北に行ってきました。宮城県の石巻というところです。がれきの撤去など、無茶々園に縁のある人のところへ、仕事を少し手伝ってきました。

North East
When the earthquake hit here, I was taking a train. The train stopped suddenly, and we were directed to an elementary school by a conductor. Then our nightmare started. Soon after, the train was derailed by the Tsunami.
We were told to seek refuge in a school gym. The principal of the school was the one who decided this because he wanted to avoid making the school building dirty. However, this decision was totally wrong.
The first wave of Tsunami brought plenty of water that reached our knees very quickly. The water movement was really fast. We sensed danger and decided to escape upstairs.
There was a baby among us. The baby was crying at the beginning, but stopped crying soon. I think he was getting dehydrated; even vomiting.
We sent him and his mother upstairs first. High school students were treated as adults, so they were put on low prioritiy for the escape. Elderly people with wheelchairs, too. A middle-aged man bent his knees and it was used as a step for other people to go upstairs. When I stepped on his knee, I could understood that his leg had got swollen.
More water suddenly flowed into the gym, and a wheel chair fell down. Then, the waves of water brought a black car into the gym; I was so shocked to see it.
In such a short time, water rose as high as a basket ball ring. I somehow climbed up to the rooftop, but I guess those who were behind me were taken by the water. Water took many other people as well like those who were outside directing people to the gym, those who were coming to the school by car afterwards, and so on. Everyone was shouting "I blame the principal!" from the upper storey of the gym.
The town was, too, full of dead bodies. Where water flows, corpses flow along with it. Such scenes have become so normal here. Even kids seemed to get used to such a situation. They were walking right next to the corpses without giving them any special attention. Even now, we sometimes find corpses. Before, wherever we dug, we used to find dead bodies. Sometimes, we used to find cars with several bodies in its folds which scared me badly. When we moved to the school building from the gym, we had to step over these bodies. Those students who were participating in the rehearsal for their graduation ceremony remained in the school when the Tsunami came. I wonder how bad their mental shock was.
There was a school that was burned down. The surface of the water was covered by a layer of oil that came with the Tsunami. The water brought cars too, and they bumped against each other at a quite an alarming pace. That is how a fire started. The school kept burning for a couple of days and became completely black. People were trying to extinguish a fire with water of the school pool, but it has not been enough. Finally, they could do nothing but wait till it burnt down completely.
Water didn't reach the fist floors of some buildings, but only escaping to the first floor wasn't been enough. After the second wave, the water level got much higher. There are people who climbed up to the rooftop, the rooftop was swiped away by water, but eventually they were alive.
Talking about my own house and office, there are only basic structures left. Buildings disappeared. I found an iron tower, that used to stand near my house, sticking out of my house.
It is not allowed to construct different things at the same place, but it's impossible to build exactly the same things. Even if s/he builds the same thing, there is no insurance available. I wonder what those who got a loan for their house will do.Many people will declare personal bankruptcy.
There are many cases of thieves specially those houses with only the fist floor remained.
