Waseda Community Development Symposium 2013
On the day of Star Festival, I was invited to Waseda Community Development Symposium as one of the panelists. This is an annual event and this year was the 20th one; of course, it was also held when I was an student of Waseda Univ.
Usually, different sessions are held at the same time according to each theme in separate rooms. So the audience needed to choose a limited number of section meetings to attend. However, this year was different as it was 20th event and understood that it should be a milestone. The program was designed expecting the audience to listen to all sessions. Each program was held in the same conference room continuously. Each session was closely related to the other.
Many of panelists and facilitators were working-level people on this theme - community development, such as researchers, consultants etc. As for the second section meeting ("ecological area study - inheriting and harnessing area context") that I was in had two "I-turns" to farming and mountain villages, including myself, as panelists. It became such a lively session maybe because our discussions were based on experience rather than knowledge, and I enjoyed a lot. I think I, as a peculiar panelist among other professionals, could play whatever role I was supposed to.
